Arcade Console $199 in.....

Take it for what it's worth, but we've received a tip from a source close to Microsoft's marketing department who has shed some light on the Xbox 360 price cuts that are rumored to be going down in a few weeks time. More specifically, the $199 Xbox 360 Arcade bundle.

According to the source, Microsoft will be positioning the Arcade bundle to be in direct competition with the Wii, meaning that the marketing push behind it will focus on family friendly entertainment. With family oriented games on the packaging, the Arcade console will come packaged with the traditional Arcade goodies (512MB memory card, etc.), the new Fall update pre-loaded as well as a motion controller and a few motion controlled mini games developed by Rare. That's right, a motion controller! Supposedly, the motion controller will work with all 360 consoles and will even be sold separately, bundled with an even more expansive list of mini motion controlled games. This new $199 Xbox 360 Arcade bundle is said to release Holiday 2008.


Arcade 360 bundle will be $199
Pros $298 with 60 Gb hard drive
Elites $399 With 120 GB hard drive

Though Japan has traditionally been a weak market for the Xbox 360, Microsoft recently applied price cuts of about 30 percent there, following a complete sellout thanks to the launch of popular RPG Tales of Vesperia. The basic Arcade SKU was discounted to to ¥19,800 ($183), the 60GB Pro to ¥29,800 ($276), and the 120GB Elite to ¥39,800 ($368).

Says Sebastian, "We believe the Japan announcement is a likely precursor to more aggressive pricing of the Xbox 360 in the U.S, and we continue to expect a lower $199 price point on the base Arcade SKU (below the $249 Wii price point), as well as lower $299 and $399 prices for the 60GB and 120GB versions, respectively."

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter says comparisons to previous console generations show "room for significant sales growth" this year if price cuts are implemented. Pachter currently sees "relatively stagnant demand" for Xbox 360, and pegs September 7 as the date speculated for Microsoft to reduce prices.

It's official: We've got an Xbox 360 price cut coming to the US. Our friends in Japan announced their price cut earlier this week, but now it's time to roll one out here. As of September 5th, the new prices will be as follows:

Xbox 360 Arcade $199
Xbox 360 $299
Xbox 360 Elite $399

September 5th is when the price cuts come to the 360 consoles!
I am going to probably get a arcade cause my halo se 360 console is really crappin in the laser!
it wont read any of my games except for cod4 but yah I LOVE THE PRICE CUT AND THE ARCADES ARE THE SAME AS THE ELITES! but the Arcades are way better cause they have the new lite-on drive and the new falcon motherboard which has a extra heatsink so yah it keeps cool unlike the over heating elite!

I thought all the new Xbox's have the new motherboard. My new pro system stays cool for hours. My old Elite was warmer after 5 minutes than my new pro is at 5 hours. I also don't think the Arcade has the HDMI output.

yah the pro has the lite on drive and the new motherboard also ! elites do not have them, either do the cores
